Clinical chemistry deals with analysis of blood (serum, plasma or anticoagulated whole blood) and various body fluids for screening, diagnosis and monitoring of different diseases like cardiovascular disorders, endocrine disorders, infections, autoimmune disorders etc.

Clinical microbiology is a branch of medicine concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. In addition, this field of science studies various clinical applications of microbes for the improvement of health. There are four kinds of microorganisms that cause infectious disease: bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. Timely and appropriate diagnosis of infectious disease is crucial in therapeutic management of patients. Clinical microbiology laboratories are the crusaders in antibiotic stewardship by providing important information about the recent changing trends of antimicrobial resistance of different microorganisms to the physicians and hospitals.

Hematology, a branch of pathology deals with study, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases related to blood. It includes division like general hematology including immunohematology, hemato-oncology, hemostasis and transfusion medicine. The hematopathology section offers services for diagnosing specific hematological diseases like anemia, leukaemia/lymphoma, infections, and coagulation disorders.

Histopathology - refers to the microscopic examination of tissue in order to study the manifestations of disease. Specifically, it deals with the examination of a biopsy or surgical specimen by a pathologist, after the specimen has been processed and histological sections have been placed onto glass slides. It helps in making the diagnosis, provides prognostic information and guides management of patients to ensure accurate and timely care of clinical problems encountered by patients. Application of immunohistochemistry and molecular methods makes this field more complex and time consuming area.

Cytopathology - is a branch of pathology that studies and diagnoses disease on the cellular level. It includes aspiration cytology and exfoliative cytology. Aspiration cytology involves examination of cells actively obtained by fine needle aspiration (FNAC) with or without radiological guidance. Exfoliative cytology refers to examination of specimens containing cells exfoliated from body cavities & surfaces. It is divided into gynaecological (cervical/Pap smear) and non-gynaecological cytology ( pleural / peritoneal / synovial / csf / urine / sputum / Bronchoalveolar lavage ).
